10 Comet

The first hero with ice powers is unique in that they are a friend of the Linda Danvers version of Supergirl in the 90’s, and had shapeshifting powers that included changing gender as well. That hero is Comet, aka Andrea Martinez, a gay stand-up comic who shape shifts into the male hero Comet.

While originally having the power to create an aura of ice and a psionic aura of love, Comet developed wings of ice, ice vision, and a centaur form after becoming the Angel of Love. It was soon discovered Andrea had merged with a male jockey named Andrew Jones after both passed away in an avalanche, creating Comet.

After learning of her ability to control temperature and thus freezing the area around her, she was labeled a witch by the locals of Nigeria, and due to her deep religious background she believed herself a monster who had committed some unknown sin. She was rescued by Hope Summers and Storm.

More specifically Zan, as he has the ability to manipulate and become himself water in any form. One way he does this is by becoming ice in many different forms. He has been known to become solid ice, and has even in later years become a Frost Giant using his power.

The next hero with ice powers is one of Marvel Comics most powerful mutant heroes for the X-Men, Storm. A powerful mutant with the ability to manipulate and control the weather, Storm has been one of the X-Men’s most powerful members and teachers, as well as a true leader on the team.

Having also become the Queen of Wakanda through her brief marriage to Black Panther, Ororo has shown she has the power to manipulate ice as well, having the power to control storms, including snow and ice storms. She also has amplified power when given the Asgardian weapon known as Stormcaster.

5 Icemaiden

The next hero comes from the world of DC Comics, and is one of the few operating bisexual heroes in the Justice League world. That hero is Icemaiden, aka Sigrid Nansen. Sigrid was a Norwegian citizen who willingly underwent an experiment by her government to please her overbearing mother, and gained ice powers as a result.

Also given blue skin, Icemaiden became Norway’s representative for the Global Guardians. However years later when the hero Ice emerged and joined the team, she resigned. Later she joined the Justice League after Ice’s passing, and was later lured away from her heroics by the Mist so that she could be replaced and framed.

4 Crystal

The next hero on the list of heroes who has great power over ice is a member of the Inhuman Royal Family in Marvel Comics, Crystal. The sister of Queen Medusa of the Inhumans, Crystal has the power to manipulate and control the four elements of the planet, (Earth, Wind, Water, and Fire).

Later retcons made her ice powers a metahuman gene, but either way she can control ice naturally as opposed to those with technology or accidental experiments. She has been an important member of the Justice League and Global Guardians over the years alongside her best friend Fire.

2 Killer Frost

This next hero is unique in that she has been both a villain and a hero, making her one of the few people in comics to be labeled both a villain and hero with ice powers. That hero in question is Caitlin Snow, aka Killer Frost of DC Comics fame.

Changed on a genetic level after exposure to an experiment in the midst of an attack on a STAR Labs facility, she became an unwilling heat vampire, feeding off of people’s body heat. She has recently joined Batman’s Justice League of America in the Rebirth era, and fights to maintain her dreams of being a hero.
