New Super Mario Bros. Wii is a side-scrolling platformer and the sequel to New Super Mario Bros. for the Nintendo DS, being the second installment in theNew Super Mario Bros.series . This game plays similar to the original New Super Mario Bros., with the addition of a new 4-player simultaneous multiplayer mode with Mario, Luigi and Toads as playable characters. The game also features new power-ups, such as the Propeller Suit and the Penguin Suit, the ability to ride Yoshi, and the return of the Koopalings. This game was released on November 15, 2009, in North America.

Plot[]
Mario and his friends are celebrating Princess Peach's birthday when a huge cake arrives. The Koopalings and Bowser Jr. pop out and throw the cake on top of Peach,"imprisoning" her. They carry Peach to their Airship fortress, while Mario, Luigi, and two other Toads pursue. The other Toads from the castle use a cannon to blast the Propeller Suit and Penguin Suit for Mario and the others.
After defeating all the Koopalings, Kamek and Bowser Jr, the team gets to Bowser's castle. When they find Bowser, one of them jumps on a button and sends him falling down to the lava below. Mario, Luigi and the Toads see Princess Peach in the cage, but she turns out to be Kamek wearing Peach's dress. Kamek then flies out of the cage and casts a magical spell that makes Bowser come back ten times larger than his normal size, giving chase. The four run away from Bowser until they get to a large button below Princess Peach. One of them pushes the button and the giant Bowser falls into the lava again. Peach is then released from her cage.
Mario and Peach walk out of Bowser's castle and see Luigi, Blue Toad and Yellow Toad coming down in hot air balloons. Luigi walks out of his balloon and lets Mario and Peach in, but the balloon goes up without Luigi, so the Toads offer him a ride in their balloon. After the credits, Bowser Jr. and the Koopalings are all trying to push regular sized Bowser back up. They succeed, but by causing a huge thud, and Bowser's castle falls on all of them.
Gameplay[]
The gameplay is similar to that of the original New Super Mario Bros. for the Nintendo DS, with several additions, including 4-player simultaneous multiplayer and the ability to do a mid-air twirl by shaking the controller.
Multiplayer[]
Up to four players can play a level together, where the players can interact with each other in several ways. If players die in the game, they are suspended from gameplay in a floating bubble, until another player pops the bubble. If all the players are in a bubble at the same time, they will be sent back to the map screen. Players can pick up other players and throw them, a technique that can be implemented both cooperatively and competitively in the game's versus modes. Every block with an item inside grants additional items for every player not dead or in a bubble.
Power-Ups[]
Three additional power-ups have been added to the Mario Bros. arsenal. The Ice Flower, debuting in Super Mario Galaxy allows characters to freeze enemies. The Penguin Suit allows characters to freeze enemies and slide on the ground and destroy any bricks in the way, potentially getting in areas not otherwise accessible. The Propeller suit allows Mario and others to preform spinning jumps and fly. Yoshi has also been added into the game and functions similar to their debut in Super Mario World, allowing characters to ride on Yoshi and use his tongue to eat various enemies and objects.
Super Guide[]
The Super Guide, which allows players to skip levels of the game they would otherwise be stuck on, has been added into the game to make it more accessible to less skilled players. Activating the Super Guide will show Luigi automatically beating the level, with option of trying the level again or skipping it entirely. The guide can only be accessed after the player has died eight times on the same level.

A grassy plain with tall mushroom platforms, mushroom mountains in the distance and Princess Peach's castle. Has a secret cannon to World 5.
World 2[]
A desert with tall sand geysers and a large pyramid. Has a secret cannon to World 5.
World 3[]
A snowy forest with large ice platforms and the debut of the Penguin Suit. Has a secret cannon to World 6.
World 4[]
A beach with an archipelago of small islands and Porchu-Puffers. Has a secret cannon to World 6.
World 5[]
A jungle with poison lakes, Wigglers and Bramballs. Has a secret cannon to World 8.
World 6[]
Several large mountains connected by pipes. Has a secret cannon to World 8.
World 7[]
A world up in the clouds with mushroom platforms. The peaks of World 1's mushroom mountains can be seen here.
World 8[]
A fiery volcano with Bowser's Castle at the end and a secret route which leads to the end faster.
World 9[]
A secret bonus world unlocked after defeating Bowser, featuring some of the toughest challenges in the game. Each of the eight levels can only be accessed after collecting every star coin in the corresponding world. This is the only world without a mid-way tower or a castle at the end.
