Famous Washington, D.C. Logos

The nation’s capital is where policies are enacted, initiatives are pushed through, and where change can happen. Given the proximity to state and federal offices and leaders, it makes sense that many organizations, nonprofits, and corporations would establish their roots here.

There’s no shortage of outstanding companies with outstanding missions who call Washington, D.C. home. In a city full of possibility and change, companies need to strategically think about their brand strategy to stand out and differentiate themselves from the next organization down the road.

Three of those brands that have established a concrete brand image are below. If you want to browse more Washington, D.C. based companies and their logos, look at what our Hatchwise creatives have designed on this page.

American Red Cross

The American Red Cross has is the premier organization for relief aid, responding to an emergency every 8 minutes. This nonprofit provides aid for emergencies, disasters, and more. Founded back in 1881 by Clara Barton, its headquarters are in Washington, D.C. alongside several national nonprofit organizations.

The symbol of the Red Cross has been the symbol of the nonprofit since 1864. This symbol has grown to be a universal symbol of peace, always helping those in need. The red color symbolizes the Red Cross’ mission of stopping emergencies in its tracks and saving lives.

This emblem is so prominent that it has become a protected emblem, in hopes of preserving this symbol to only represent the goodwill of this nonprofit. This emblem has stuck with the brand for more than 150 years, showing the power a strong emblem can have.

United States Postal Service

Everyone has been to the post office. It’s where you mail packages, pick up mail, grab stamps, get money orders, and more. Every town has a post office, but these post offices must be overseen by a headquarters and the United States Postal Service’s (USPS) headquarters is in Washington, D.C.

While the postal service has been around since the 1770s, the federal agency of the USPS wasn’t established until 1971. The USPS’s logo represents the United States. The logo features red, white, and blue – the colors that fly on the American flag and the colors that are associated with the country. Also displayed on the logo is an eagle which is the bird of the country and a symbol of America. These design choices represent that the USPS operates for the American people.

Amtrak

When it comes to travel you can opt to travel by air, by car, by boat, or by rail. With rail travel, the common train you would take is Amtrak.

Since Amtrak was founded in 1971, the rail service has grown to operate in 46 of the 48 contingent states. Amtrak today still operates with the same mission in mind that it was founded on, to serve as a trail route for passengers across the country.

Headquartered near Union Station in Washington D.C., Amtrak runs out of 500 train stations and covers more than 21,000 miles. Amtrak transports upwards of 22 million passengers annually so when it comes to Amtrak’s logo, it was important to have one that could be recognized on a universal scale. The logo today does just that. In a friendly blue color, the logo showcases three curved lines with the Amtrak wordmark. These lines represent the speed of the trains, as well as the routes Amtrak operates on. The three lines symbolize three of Amtrak’s many routes that can speedily, and precisely, take you from Point A to Point B.
