1 Define your goals

Before you start looking for software, you need to have a clear idea of what you want to achieve with your animated infographic. What is the main message you want to convey? Who is your target audience? How will you distribute your infographic? How much time and budget do you have? These questions will help you narrow down your options and choose the software that suits your needs and preferences.

Defining objectives is the crucial step before creating an animation.Start by identifying the target audience, adapting the content accordingly and making the message as simple as possible. Next, you need to think about the type of distribution channel for the animation: social networks, website, screen distribution...Finally, you need to take into account budget constraints to choose the software that best meets your needs, and plan a retroplanning schedule with creation stages, correction/modification/validation stages, and a delivery date for the final product. In short, define your objectives, identify your audience, plan your distribution and choose the software that best suits your resources.

2 Explore different types of software

Depending on your level of skill, creativity, and complexity, there are many types of software that can assist in creating animated infographics. Online tools, such as Visme, Canva, and Animaker, are web-based platforms that offer ready-made templates, icons, charts, and animations that you can customize and edit online. They are easy to use, fast, and affordable but may have limited features and flexibility. Desktop applications like Adobe Illustrator, Adobe After Effects, and Inkscape are software programs that you install on your computer and give you more control and freedom over your design and animation; however, they may require more time, money, and learning. Finally, coding languages such as HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript are languages that you use to write code and create your own graphics and animations from scratch. They are the most advanced, customizable, and interactive; yet they also require the most skill, knowledge, and effort.

You have to try everything that can be tried. However, training in professional software like After Effects seems very complicated for the beginner. But in the end, the new professional skills you acquire with After Effects will make all the difference on your resume. Bear in mind that this is a reference software in the video industry in the broadest sense of the term.

3 Compare the features and benefits

When comparing potential software options, you may want to consider factors such as ease of use, functionality, quality, and cost. How user-friendly is the software? What kind of graphics and animations can you create with the software? How professional and polished is the output of the software? And how much does the software cost? Is it a one-time purchase or a subscription? These are all important questions to consider when selecting the right software for your needs.

4 Test the software

The best way to find out if a software is right for you is to test it yourself. Most software offer free trials or demos that allow you to try their features and functions before you buy them. You can use this opportunity to create a sample animated infographic and see how it works, looks, and feels. You can also check the reviews and ratings of other users and experts to get their feedback and opinions.

Animated infographics are extremely fun to create and also quite challenging. The issue I would say is not the software, it’s always the idea. As I learned how to animate manually, I’m a firm believer that it’s the concept over the tool. A recent infographics project I completed had all the makings of a great brief; clear explanation, open deadline and most importantly, creative freedom. Pre animation: collect info, analyse them and structure a storyboard Be sure to keep it simple, the goal is to explain and not over complicateMost importantly, have fun animating!
